There's no place like home

Well, we are moved and settled into life as we know it in Kansas.

Oh yes, that's right. We moved to Kansas!! :)

This has been one whirlwind summer. From making the initial decision to up and leave the life I knew and loved, to being where we are now.

It has surprisingly gone well. In all aspects of things. It rained on us the entire time we were driving through Texas. I kept telling Scott it was because Texas was crying watching me leave. Then we got to Oklahoma. No story there. It's just plain old Oklahoma. It was cloudy and drizzled a bit. After 3 hours of flat lands, Kansas. Kansas had blue skies and fresh air. We had little to no traffic the rest of the way and made it safe and sound.

The next morning I had an interview scheduled. Talk about just throwing myself out there! I was a huge ball of nerves. Will they like me? Will they understand me? (People up here tend to talk a tad bit differently than we do :)) I breezed through it and eventually got word I got the job! Not only did I get the one I wanted but I was able to start next week! Great success! My nerves were going 100 miles an hour down a winding road.

Wednesday I was reunited with my sweet daughter and puppy. The parentals and Hannah my sister came along also. We enjoyed a small time together then they were gone and reality set in. Instead of " I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" it was " I am in Kansas". This is a phrase I swore I would never say.

Y'all know what's associated with Kansas? Tornadoes. Yup. I declared when I was about 8 or 9 years old that I would NEVER and I repeat NEVER move to Kansas. Once I got word that's where tornadoes were I was done. I exclaimed I would never date someone from Kansas, visit Kansas or even drive through!

Never say Never.

Scott landed a nice job for himself and we are able to see a glimmer of light at the end of our tunnel. Basically God has made sure we know we did the right thing. Now I get to have my husband home every single night. I prayed for it. I just never envisioned it would be 800 miles from where I was praying for it.

My job is awesome. I am an inventory management specialist and I get to be in charge of all the equipment inventory within our company, Monday two part time people start and I have been informed that they will report to me.

ME? I am responsible for delegating tasks? I am actually working in corporate America. This is cool! I always saw myself as a hip 90's business woman when I was younger. Box cell phone, shoulder pads, farrah hair. So this fits me. I love to Network. haha.

Emily starts school in two weeks and she is thrilled. She has already made some friends down the street. It's so weird. They actually play outside together. Ride bikes, go down to the park, and all the parents are totally okay with it! I need to get used to mid-western suburbia.

Well, that was my update. I must have clicked my heels too many times younger wishing to be home, because now, I am.

Weekend preparedness...

So this weekend is Memorial weekend.

A weekend of BBQ, lake trips, family, and friends.

I decided this was going to be the year I do something about my chronic whiteness. Meaning I am usually the whitest person wherever we are and I am tired of people covering their children's eyes for fear of permanent damage due to the sheer brightness that my skin radiates once sunlight hits it.

I figured a spray tan would be the best option. No risk for melanoma and should be fairly easy. I talked with my boss about it who told me to make sure and rub everything down fast and also wash your make up off before you get in. Got it. Little did I know how much I did not "get it"

After an intense kickboxing work out, I was super pumped to get my "tan on". I had completed the "G" in "GTL" and now I was going to do the "T". I was on a euphoric high. I was about to be a different color than translucent and I could not wait. I get to the tanning salon and explain my dilemma. The girl from the front desk was super nice. She explained everything to me and I went into to the spray room like a champ. After telling me how impressed she was with my courage, she let me be to undress and begin the process. I began looking for a sink to wash my face off. No such luck. "Oh well" I thought, and began to lotion the areas and apply the gloves and booties. Just before getting into the machine, I thought "This is simple enough, why was she so impressed with me?" and then I closed the door and pushed the button.

The next 30 seconds were sheer terror. The spray went into my mouth, up my nose, and into my eyes. My mascara began to run and burned like the fire of a thousand suns. Once the spray "torture" tan was done, I opened the door and emerged sliding around like a newborn calf does after birth. I couldn't see anything, I had this stuff in my mouth and I was panicking thinking I was going to have brown teeth. I had to find a place to spit and the towel. As soon as began rubbing the towel over my body I realized I had made a grave mistake. I looked like I had just been dropped in a giant bucket of molasses. Kinda like Cruella Deville. It was awful. As much as I rubbed the lotion and tried to figure out what I had done wrong, it still streaked. Dark brown streaks... After 5 minutes I conceded and called for help.

The salon worker knew what to do and began getting to work. Luckily she was able to salvage what had gone horribly wrong. It was at this point I realized this gunk was in my hair.  My beautiful platinum blonde hair. Panic hit again. I had to get home. I. Had. To. Get. Home. I told her I am sure everything would turn out fine, felt the hives starting to form as anxiety took hold, and bolted out the door. No shoes, no bra, just ran to my car and took off.

Luckily, it washed out. And after waiting 5 hours I took a shower and the streaks that ran down my butt cheeks washed off. I am now not "as pasty' as I was before. I will probably NEVER use the machine again and will stick to having someone spray me themselves or just remain white. Either way this was a learning experience. And boy did I learn.

I am now prepared (somewhat) for laying out on the lake.

*I want to give a big THANK YOU to the troops for all their service and all they do. Thank you for fighting for my freedom to be able to experience everything.

Til next time :)

Oh my oh my

The time sure flies by when you're having fun!

Or not having fun, either way, since no matter what you do time does not and will not ever stop for you while you are alive.

Whoa. That was mildly deep.

So I think I may also make this blog about critiques over the restaurants in this area. Since there are quite a few that need a good heads up on what is proper and what is not...Especially Chili's in Port Arthur and everything they do. It's awful.

Last night Emily had a small rash form on her face. We immediately knew it was from her coming into contact with someone or something that had peanut oil or residue on it. We gave her some benadryl and sent her to bed. After checking on her numerous times for over two hours, I finally went to take a bath to soak my knee. While I was in the bath it hit me about just how severe her allergy is. The things I go through on a daily basis protecting her come second nature to me. Being "that mom" at a birthday party that asks if I can go through the candy to take out everything peanut or nut oriented, reading all the labels at the store, or anytime she is given some food to see if there is a chance it would contain trace amounts of peanuts, which is enough to send her into shock and need some type of medical assistance. The fact that if she EVER eats anything with peanuts or traces of it I have exactly two minutes to get the epi-pen into her and call 911. These truths became so overwhelming I almost broke down into tears and panic. I started questioning what her future will be like. Mommy can't always be there. That is a terrifying reality. Not because I am an overly attached mother, but because I feel I am the only one who has her back when it comes to this. What if she gets around people who offer her food and they don't know what is in it? What if they "think" it's peanut free and ends up not being. I have read too many times online about the death of children, and even some teenagers, who were told it was safe and lost their lives. I just have to continue to educate, pray, hope that we are making her as knowledgeable about her allergy as we possibly can.

Off of that super serious subject for now..

I fell down a week ago and smashed a glass into my hand. The cut itself is healing however I am having very tender moments and other times when my hand feels like it's on fire. Quite intense actually. I cannot put any pressure on it at all which sucks since I am used to working out and doing a lot with my hands. UGH

Today would be the day I am completely out of Zyrtec and my nose is itching like no other. RIDIC

Enough about my complaints/worries. Hopefully something hilarious will happen at my next outing and I can blog about that. Toodles! heh.

2013

Well friends it has been awhile.

Happy 2013!!

As I type this I feel like I have literally been thrown through a washing machine on super spin cycle. Yes, that's right. I joined a gym. There are muscles on me that are sore that I didn't even know I had. It's always amusing to myself when I go to the restroom and literally have to act like I am climbing down a mountain to sit on the toilet. Also the typical heave/ho when getting back up is always interesting. Especially since I've slammed back down numerous times. Jeez. I did buy the hype and got a super low calorie and no fat protein shake mix. No worries, I did my general hour long google search to make sure it was the right one for me and that it worked the best for the money. I am happy. I won't be supplementing all of my meals though as I do still obsess over cupcakes and hot sauce. There are certain things I will not let go of. A good hot sauce is one of them. So this journey shall be continued (I hope) and I will update more about this again later in the month. I am looking forward to being able to type more without my hands muscles hurting.

In other news, we had an amazing holiday in Kansas for Christmas. Emily is now officially labeled as spoiled and has more gadgets than I have ever had in my 25 years. I do make sure that most of the games are educational though. If she's going to be staring at a screen it needs to be enriching her mind. She received one game and spent an entire 2 1/2 days until she beat it. When she finally looked up I don't think she even realized we were sitting around her. We enjoyed lots of family and friends time, did a ton of shopping, and ate at a lot of fun places. It was fantastic and just what our little family needed.

Scott and I will be having our one year anniversary in a little over a month. I cannot believe how fast time has flown. This time last year I was crunching out all the minor and major details with the help of my mom and friends and literally not sleeping. It just so happens that our anniversary is 4 days after Valentines day. Scott made a comment about "Valentines day is just a day for cards and roses, the real deal is our anniversary." He sometimes likes to joke with me. He also knows now not to get it twisted and that Valentines day is important just like it was before we were married. Sweet thing ;)

I need to rest my muscles now so I will update later on. Cheers!
